Providing the highest quality service while building our local community
Hey, We’re Matthew and Brittany Giesbrecht of The Speckled Sow Butchery & Market.
What started at our own kitchen table in 2017 has quickly grown into a loyal local following of customers looking for that same small town Mennonite Farmers Sausage we all know and love.
Our goal is to keep our products as locally raised as possible, help families fill their freezers with affordable local options, and educate people on the farm to table lifestyle.
In 2021, we took the plunge to full time, quit both our day jobs, built our butcher shop, and now deliver our products across Northern BC.
Brittany has a passion for bringing the community together with local goods and festivities. I have always loved the idea of bringing those “Okanagan Farm Market” vibes to the North. Both being young, it took us a while to find our groove in what we wanted to do with our lives. Matt is a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic, and Britt was a local school bus driver for SD91 in Vanderhoof.
We were both born and raised in Vanderhoof, and have a secure base of knowledge in the farming and hunting industry. Matt has always had a passion for taking his hard earned game or farm raised animal and turning it into something amazing on the BBQ. Growing up in a Mennonite family, butchering pigs and making sausage was always a big part of his upbringing.
Not having children, and really having the whole world in front of us, we decided to take a leap of faith, put our passions together, and create a business that could serve our northern communities. We have spent many years perfecting recipes, gaining relationships with customers, and learning the art of this butcher business.
As farmers and hunters ourselves, we felt the pressure of having our animals professionally processed when the time was needed. Northern BC has been struggling for cut & wrap facilities for quite some time now. We wanted to help alleviate some of that stress on the farmers and hunters in the area, and provide a butcher shop for custom cutting & wrapping. Now, we are full time serving Northern BC with our services. We have helped many hunters in the area process their hard earned game, and have helped many farmers bring their farm to the table.
